Aims of the Department
The main aims of the Biology Department are:

to provide an appreciation and understanding of fundamental biological principles through a scientific study of a representative selection of living organisms;

to develop a scientific approach to the solving of problems within the context of planning and conducting of investigation;

to develop the skills necessary to work safely with apparatus, biological material and living organisms;

to encourage an understanding of technological applications and their ethical, social, economic and environmental implications;

to provide a scientific training, either as an end in itself or as a foundation for more advanced study.
Schemes of Assessment
At Key Stage 4 pupils' progress is monitored by:

regular standardised homework
-
standardised end of unit tests
A similar scheme of assessment operates at A-level, following CCEA criteria.
