Biology
The
Biology Department is an integral part of the Science Department in
Thornhill College. Biology teachers are involved
in the delivery of Science
at Key Stage 3, the Biology component of the N.I. Double (modular) and Triple Award (non modular) Science at Key Stage 4, AS and A2 Level Biology (Modular)
and A-level Applied Science.
The
main aims of the Biology Department are:

to provide an appreciation and understanding of fundamental biological
principles through a scientific study of a representative selection of
living organisms;

to develop a scientific approach to the solving of problems within the
context of planning and conducting of investigation;

to develop the skills necessary to work safely with apparatus, biological
material and living organisms;

to encourage an understanding of technological applications and their
ethical, social, economic and environmental implications;
-
to provide a scientific training, either as an end in itself or as a
foundation for more advanced study.
