Personnel Specification - Principal of Thornhill College


1. QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING

Essential
University Degree or equivalent;
Recognised Teaching Qualification.


Desirable
Have completed an additional and relevant award bearing course:

  • Additional Degree;

  • Masters;

  • Diploma/Certificate/Other relevant qualification (eg PQH).


2. EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Employed in the post primary sector or related area for at least 12 years in last 15 years i.e. since 1st September 1995;

  • Knowledge and experience as a member of Senior Management Team or comparable management experience;

  • Will have held at least 5 responsibility points for a minimum of 3 years;

  • Knowledge and understanding and management experience of the post primary sector curriculum with a clear awareness and understanding of the main educational issues facing a large 11-18 College;

  • Understanding of the nature and purpose of a Catholic School

Desirable

  • Leadership of staff;

  • The management of change;

  • Development of the curriculum in a large 11-18 College;

  • Management of resources and use of ICT

3. SKILLS

Essential

Management Skills to include:

  • Strategic Planning Skills;

  • Team Building Skills;

  • Organisational Skills;

  • Management of Change Skills;

  • Conflict Resolution Skills;

  • Delegation Skills;

Communication Skills to include:

  • Ability to analyse and evaluate;

  • Written and Oral Skills;

  • Interpersonal Skills.
