Personnel Specification - Vice Principal of Thornhill College


1. QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING

Essential

  • A university degree which incorporates a subject currently in the school’s curriculum;

  • Qualified teacher status.

Desirable

  • Have successfully completed the Professional Qualification for Headship (NI) or are serving Vice Principals;

  • Have successfully completed an additional and relevant postgraduate award bearing course.
     


2. EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Have been employed in the post primary sector or related area for at least 5 in the last 8 years i.e. since 1 September 2002;

  • Have experience of developing, implementing and monitoring Pastoral Care Policy or Curriculum Planning;

  • Have experience in the management of people and resources;

  • Have held at least a Point 3 Management Allowance for a minimum of 3 years.
     

Desirable

  • Demonstrate experience of working in partnership with parents and/or external agencies.

3. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY

Essential

  • The ability to lead and motivate staff in developments relevant to the needs of the school;

  • Effective skills of communication;

  • A sensitive appreciation and awareness of the needs of staff and pupils;

  • The ability to analyse problems and make decisions;

  • Good organisational ability.
     


4. PERSONAL QUALITIES

Essential

  • Willingness to take initiative;

  • The ability to set and maintain high personal and academic standards;

  • A realistic approach when dealing with issues and people.
