Educating concerned, informed, adaptable
members of the world community

A very successful Digital Literacy week was held in Thornhill College from the 20th-24th November to promote the digital literacy across the school.

A series of events and competitions were held throughout the week.

Year 8 students enjoyed participating in an ‘Hour of Code’ workshops at the beginning of the week.  These workshops were delivered by the Year 12 and Year 13 digital leaders (prefects).

Year 9 students enjoyed an interactive presentation on the theme of ‘Digital Citizenship and the Internet of Things’ delivered by Colm O’Donnell and Rachel McDermott from the Nerve Centre.

Year 10 students thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Ignite Your Future’ workshops last Thursday.  The Ignite Your Future initiative aims to promote the uptake of careers by females within the technology sector.  We were delighted to have a team of female technologists from across the north-west led by Alison Ballard from Allstate to collaborate with the students on tasks relating to being creative and problem solving within the tech sector.

A google maps treasure hunt competition ran throughout the week with daily prizes presented to our junior students. We would like to thank Currys PC World for sponsorship of our competition prizes.

We would also like to thank the Nerve Centre, Ignite Your Future volunteers and our very own digital leaders for their contribution to a very successful and exciting week.
