Year 8 pupils plant some Cherry Blossom trees to mark the beginning of their journey in Thornhill College in 2018

In 2015, Pope Francis wrote an impassioned letter entitled, Laudato Si, calling on all God’s people to show a duty of care towards the Environment.
Pope Francis writes,
Creation is a gift, it is a wonderful gift that God has given us, so that we care for it and we use it for the benefit of all, always with great respect and gratitude.’
Pope Francis
We are proud to call Thornhill College an ‘Eco friendly school’ and we strive on a daily basis to think about ways we can put the 3 R’s of Reuse, Reduce and Recycle into action.

To mark the beginning of the journey of our new Year 8 pupils in Thornhill College in 2018 we have decided to plant some Cherry Blossom trees in our avenue.
These trees whilst young and small now will continue to blossom and grow over the future years of your daughters’ time here. They will be a lovely symbol to illustrate that with the passage of time your daughters too will grow in maturity and will be nurtured in the welcoming caring ethos of our school. These beautiful trees will be a perennial reminder of God’s gift of Creation and our duty of care to nurture it for future generations.
Our tree planting ceremony took place today, Monday 26th November, with representatives from each Year 8 Form class, together with Dr Morewood, Head of Year, Mrs Walker, Head of School and Fr Colm Clerkin, who conducted a blessing over the trees.
